- 1 1/2 c. shortening
- 1 c. buttermilk
- 3 c. sugar
- 4 eggs
- 1/2 tsp. soda
- 1 Tbsp. hot water
- 3 1/2 c. flour
- 1 tsp. salt
- 1 Tbsp. vanilla
Directions

1Cream the shortening and sugar; add 1 egg at a time, beating well after each addition.

2Dissolve soda in hot water and add to buttermilk.

3Add buttermilk and flour with salt alternately.

4Add vanilla; beat well.

5Pour in floured tube pan with wax paper liner on bottom.

6Bake 1 hour and 35 minutes at 300°.
