  • 1 3/4 c. buttermilk
  • 1/4 c. sugar
  • 2 tsp. salt
  • 1/4 c. shortening
  • 1/2 tsp. baking soda
  • 4 1/2 to 5 c. flour

    Dissolve yeast in the 1/4 cup warm water.

    Heat buttermilk to lukewarm;
