Cabbage Casserole

- 1 large head cabbage, shredded (12 c.)
- 1 onion, chopped
- 6 Tbsp. butter or margarine, divided
- 1 can cream of mushroom soup (undiluted)
- 8 oz. process American cheese, cubed
- salt and pepper to taste
- 1/4 c. dry bread crumbs
Directions

1Cook cabbage in salted water until tender.

2Drain well.

3In skillet, saute onion in 5 tablespoons margarine or butter until tender.

4Add soup; mix well.

5Add cheese; heat and stir until melted.

6Remove from heat.

7Stir in cabbage and seasonings.

8Place in a 2-quart baking dish.

9Melt rest of butter and put in bread crumbs and brown lightly.

10Sprinkle over casserole.

11Bake at 350° for about 30 minutes.
