Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 lb. ground beef
  • 1 large head cabbage
  • 1 c. regular rice, uncooked
  • 1 (No. 2) can tomatoes
  • 1/2 c. celery, diced
  • 1/4 c. bell pepper, diced
  • 1/4 tsp. salt
  • 1/2 c. onion, diced
  • 2 Tbsp. ketchup
  • 1/4 tsp. pepper

    Core stem out of cabbage.

    Place in a large pot of boiling water to wilt leaves.

    Mix all ingredients except cabbage in a large mixing bowl.

    Puree tomatoes; add 1/2 to meat mixture. Reserve other half to pour over rolls in casserole.

    Peel leaves off cabbage.

    Roll beef mixture in leaves and place in casserole. Pour remaining pureed tomatoes over rolled leaves.

    Cut remaining cabbage and steam in water; drain.

    Pour over cabbage rolls, cover casserole and cook on slow to medium heat for 1 1/2 to 2 hours or until well done.

    Add liquid as needed.
