- 2 c. self-rising flour
- 1 1/3 c. sugar
- 1/2 c. vegetable shortening
- 1 c. milk
- 2 eggs
- 1 tsp. vanilla
Directions

1Grease and flour two 9-inch layer pans.

2Preheat oven to 350°. Combine flour and sugar in large bowl.

3Add shortening and 2/3 of the milk.

4Beat 2 minutes at medium speed with mixer.

5Add remaining milk and eggs.

6Beat 2 minutes longer.

7Add vanilla. Beat 1 minute.

8Pour into prepared pans.

9Bake at 350° for 30 minutes or until centers spring back when pressed lightly with fingertips.

10Cool in pans on wire rack 10 minutes.

11Remove from pans.

12Cool completely.

13Frost with Caramel Frosting.
