Caramel Corn

Ingredients

  • 2 sticks oleo
  • 2 c. brown sugar
  • 1/2 c. light corn syrup
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1 tsp. soda
  • 1/2 tsp. cream of tartar (mix with soda)
  • 1 tsp. vanilla
  • 6 qt. hot popped, buttered popcorn

Directions

    Melt butter, stir in brown sugar, corn syrup and salt.

    Bring to a boil, stirring frequently

    Then boil without stirring 5 minutes.

    Remove from heat, stir in vanilla.

    Stir in soda and cream of tartar.

    Pour over popped corn and mix well.

    Turn into shallow pan.

    Bake at 200° for 1 hour, stirring every 15 minutes. Remove from oven, pour onto brown paper (I use grocery sack split open).

    Cool completely, break apart and store in covered (tightly) container.

    (May be doubled for larger amount.)
