- 2 c. sugar, divided
- 1/2 c. hot water
- 6 Tbsp. flour
- 3 eggs, separated
- 2 c. milk
- 1 Tbsp. margarine
- 1 tsp. vanilla
- 1 baked 9-inch deep dish pie crust
Directions

1Brown 1/2 cup sugar in a black skillet until melted and bubbling.

2Add 1/2 cup boiling water and stir quickly.

3Set aside. Combine 1 cup sugar and 6 tablespoons flour.

4Add egg yolks, milk and sugar mixture.

5Mix well.

6Cook over medium heat until thick. Stir constantly.

7Remove from heat and add margarine and vanilla. Mix.

8Pour into pie shell. Beat egg whites until stiff.

9Gradually add 1/2 cup sugar and 1 teaspoon vanilla.

10Beat well.

11Pile on pie and bake at 350° until brown.
