- 1/4 pound softened butter
- 5 egg yolks
- 4 tablespoons flour
- 2 cups milk room temperature
- 2 cups sugar
- 1 vanilla
- 5 teaspoons egg whites
- 5 teaspoons sugar
- 1 pie shell 10 inch baked
Directions

1Beat yolks until light. Add 1 cup sugar, flour and butter. Add milk and heat to boiling point, stirring constantly. Let stand in double boiler.

2Caramelize 1 cup sugar in iron skillet. Add to yolk mixture and cook until thick. Stir constantly. Remove from heat, add vanilla and pour into crust. Set aside.

3Beat egg whites and sugar until stiff. Cover pie with meringue. Cook at 350 degrees until lightly browned.
