  • 1 orange and juice
  • 1/2 c. sugar
  • orange rind
  • 3/4 c. nuts
  • 1 c. dates
  • 1/2 c. Crisco
  • 1 c. sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 3/4 c. sour milk
  • 2 c. flour
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 1 tsp. soda

    Squeeze 1 orange and combine juice and 1/2 cup sugar; set aside.

    Put rind, nuts and dates through food chopper.

    Blend Crisco, 1 cup sugar and eggs together.

    Stir in fruit-nut mixture. Add sour milk and flour sifted with salt and soda.

    Turn into greased casserole and bake at 300° for 1 1/2 hours.

    Remove and pour orange juice over cake at once.
