- 1 pkg. yeast
- 1 tsp. sugar
- 2 Tbsp. warm water
- 3 c. self-rising flour
- 1/3 c. shortening
- 1 tsp. baking powder
- 3/4 tsp. soda
- 2 Tbsp. sugar
- 1 c. shredded cheese
Directions

1Combine yeast, 1 teaspoon sugar and water; let stand 5 minutes.

2Add buttermilk; set aside.

3Combine flour, soda, baking powder and 2 tablespoons sugar.

4Cut in shortening until it resembles coarse meal.

5Stir in cheese.

6Add buttermilk and yeast mixture; stir only until moist.

7Cover and chill for 30 minutes. Make into biscuits.

8Cover; let rise for 30 minutes.

9Bake at 400° until golden brown.
