  • 1 cup Butter, Softened
  • 1 pound Extra-sharp Cheddar Cheese, Grated
  • 1 whole Egg
  • 2 Tablespoons Milk
  • 3/4 teaspoons Ground Red Pepper
  • 1 loaf Texas Toast

Directions

    In a medium bowl, combine all ingredients except bread, beating with a mixer until smooth.

    Trim crust from bread slices, then cut each slice into four cubes.

    (At this point, placing the cubes in the freezer for about 15 minutes will make it easier to spread the cheese mixture.)

    Using a small offset spatula, spread a thin layer of the cheese mixture on the top and four sides of each cube, leaving the bottom side intact.

    Place on a baking sheet.

    When finished icing all cubes, place the baking sheet in the freezer until cheese boxes are frozen.

    Store in a Ziploc bag in the freezer.

    When ready to bake, preheat oven to 400 degrees.

    Place as many cheese boxes as desired on a parchment-lined baking sheet, a few inches apart.

    Bake for 10 to 12 minutes, until lightly browned and puffy.
