- 8 slices 1-inch thick bread, cubed
- 1/2 lb. grated American cheese
- 5 eggs, beaten
- 2 c. milk
- 1 tsp. salt
- 1/4 c. butter, melted
Directions

1Divide bread into thirds.

2Butter baking dish.

3Layer 1/3 bread, 1/2 cheese, repeat with bread on top.

4Add eggs to milk and salt.

5Pour over bread and cheese mixture.

6Let stand in refrigerator overnight.

7Before baking, pour melted butter over top.

8Set casserole in pan of hot water.

9Bake at 325°, uncovered.

10When brown and crusty, put on cover and continue to bake for 45 minutes.
