  • 4 sliced white bread (without crusts)
  • 4 Tbsp. butter
  • 2 c. grated Swiss or Cheddar cheese
  • 1 Tbsp. flour
  • 4 eggs
  • 1 1/2 c. milk
  • ham bits or bacon bits
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1/4 tsp. pepper
  • parsley
  • sliced, sauteed onions, mushrooms, green and red peppers (optional ingredients)

Directions

    Butter bread with 2 tablespoons butter, place upside down in 8 x 8-inch glass baking dish.

    Saute onions, mushrooms, green and red pepper, ham or bacon bits in 2 tablespoons butter.

    Sprinkle over bread.

    Dust cheese with flour and sprinkle over.

    Whisk eggs, add milk, salt, pepper and parsley.

    Pour over bread.

    Cover and refrigerate 4 hours or overnight.

    Bake, uncovered, 35 minutes until fluffy and brown at 375°.
