- 1 c. sugar
- 2 c. flour
- 1/2 tsp. salt
- 2 tsp. baking powder
- 1/2 c. shortening
- 1 c. milk
- 1 tsp. vanilla
- 4 c. cherries, drained (two 16 oz. cans, reserve juice)
- 1 c. sugar
- 2 c. hot juice and water
Directions

1Combine sugar, flour, salt and baking powder in large mixer bowl.

2Add shortening, milk and vanilla.

3Beat on medium speed for 2 minutes.

4Pour into greased and floured 9 x 13-inch pan.

5Cover with drained cherries.

6Sprinkle with 1 cup sugar, then pour on the 2 cups liquid.

7Bake at 350° for 40 minutes.

8Cover with foil for last 15 minutes.

9Serve warm with ice cream or Cool Whip.
