- 1/2 c. shortening
- 1 c. lightly packed brown sugar
- 1 beaten egg
- 2 c. presifted flour
- 2 tsp. baking powder
- 1/2 tsp. salt
- 2/3 c. milk
- 1/3 c. syrup from red maraschino cherries
- 1/2 c. red maraschino cherries, drained and quartered
- 1/2 c. chopped walnuts
Directions

1Preheat oven to 350°.

2Cream shortening and lightly packed brown sugar; add beaten egg and beat well.

3Blend or sift together flour, baking powder and salt.

4Combine milk and syrup from red maraschino cherries.

5Add dry ingredients to creamed mixture alternating with milk mixture.

6Combine after each addition but do not beat.

7Carefully fold in drained, quartered red maraschino cherries, and chopped walnuts.

8Pour into a greased 9 x 5-inch loaf pan.

9Let stand 20 minutes.

10Bake in a preheated 350° oven for 55 to 65 minutes.
