  • 1 (2 layer) white cake mix
  • 1/4 tsp. almond extract
  • red food coloring
  • 1 (1 lb. 5 oz.) can cherry pie filling
  • 1 tsp. grated orange peel
  • 2 (2 or 2 1/4 oz.) pkg. Cool Whip

Directions

    Prepare cake mix according to package directions, adding almond extract to batter.

    Remove 1/3 of batter to another bowl; stir in 10 to 12 drops red food coloring.

    Spoon in pink and white batters alternately into two greased and floured 9 x 1 1/2-inch layer cake pans.

    Cut through batter with knife or spatula to marble.

    Bake in moderate oven (350°) for 25 to 30 minutes.

    Cool for 10 minutes.

    Remove from pans; cool on racks.

    Stir together pie filling and orange peel.

    Prepare Cool Whip, adding 8 to 10 drops red food coloring.
