Ingredients

  • 1 c. sugar
  • 2 rounded tsp. baking powder
  • vanilla
  • butter (size of an egg)
  • 1 c. milk
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 3 or 3 1/2 c. flour (for stiff batter)

Directions

    Mix well and put in a greased pan about the size of a number 8 skillet.

    Over this, put drained cherries from can.

    To juice, add enough water to make 2 cups.

    To this, add 1 3/4 cups sugar, 1 teaspoon salt and dash of nutmeg.

    Let raise to a boil and pour over batter and cherries.

    Bake about 45 minutes.

    Do not try to remove from pan until ready to serve.

    Make this of berries and peaches, too.
