Chess Meringue Pie

Ingredients

  • 1 c. sugar
  • 3 eggs, separated
  • 1 tsp. meal
  • 1/2 stick margarine, melted
  • 1 small can Pet milk (5 1/2 oz.)
  • 1 tsp. vanilla
  • 1/4 tsp. cream of tartar
  • 1/4 c. sugar
  • 1 unbaked pie shell

Directions

    Mix 1 cup sugar, egg yolks, meal, margarine, Pet milk and vanilla.

    Pour into unbaked pie shell and bake at 400° for 15 minutes and then at 350° for 20 minutes or until pie is set.

    When pie is done, add the cream of tartar to the egg whites.

    Beat until stiff peaks form.

    Gradually add 1/4 cup sugar and continue beating until well mixed.

    Spread on baked pie and return to 350° oven until meringue is brown.
