- 3 lb. frying chicken, cut up
- 2 Tbsp. butter
- salt and pepper
- 1 (11 oz.) can sauerkraut
- 1 medium onion, quartered and cut into strips
- 1 medium red apple (unpeeled), sliced
Directions

1Wash and dry chicken.

2In a 10-inch skillet, heat the butter; add chicken and brown on both sides.

3Remove and sprinkle with salt and pepper (if chicken doesn't give off fat, you have have to add a little more butter).

4Arrange chicken in a heavy 4-quart casserole or Dutch oven.

5Remove all but 2 tablespoons fat from skillet.

6Mix in sauerkraut, onion and apples; place mixture on top of chicken.

7Cover tightly and bake in a 325° oven until chicken is tender, about 1 hour.
