Ingredients

  • 1 lb. ground beef
  • 1/2 medium onion, chopped
  • 6 oz. tomato paste
  • 1 (10 1/2 oz.) can onion soup
  • 1 c. dried red kidney beans
  • 4 c. water
  • 3 Tbsp. chili powder
  • 1 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1/2 tsp. garlic powder
  • 1 Tbsp. sugar
  • 3/4 tsp. Tabasco sauce

Directions

    Brown ground beef and onion in a large skillet or stockpot. Add remaining ingredients and mix well. Cover and simmer on low, stirring occasionally, until beans are tender (about 3 hours). Add water occasionally, as needed.

    (If you are in a hurry, follow the directions, except leave out the beans and simmer about 45 minutes, then add 1 can kidney beans, drained, and simmer an additional 15 minutes.)
