  • 1/2 lb. ground beef
  • 1/4 c. chopped green pepper
  • 1/4 c. chopped onion
  • 1 clove garlic, minced
  • 1 (8 oz.) can tomato sauce
  • 1 (8 oz.) can red kidney beans
  • 1 (7 1/2 oz.) can tomatoes, cut up
  • 1/2 to 1 tsp. chili powder
  • 1/4 tsp. salt
  • 1/4 tsp. dried basil, crushed

Directions

    In a skillet, cook ground beef, green peppers, onion and garlic until meat is browned. Drain off fat.

    Stir in tomato sauce, undrained kidney beans, undrained tomatoes, chili powder, salt, basil and 1/8 teaspoon pepper. Bring to boiling; reduce heat.

    Cover and simmer about 20 minutes.

    Serve in bowls or spoon over hot cooked rice, if desired.
