Ingredients

  • 4 c. water
  • 1 lb. ground chuck
  • 1 c. chopped onion
  • 1 (28 oz.) can tomatoes, cut up
  • 1 tsp. dried oregano
  • 1 c. dried lentils
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 1 clove garlic, minced
  • 1 Tbsp. chili powder

Directions

    Bring water to boil and add lentils, cover and simmer 30 minutes or until tender and drain.

    Cook ground chuck, onion and garlic until browned.

    Combine meat mixture, lentils, tomatoes, chili powder, oregano and salt in Dutch oven and cook over high heat until mixture comes to a boil.

    Reduce heat to low.

    Cover and simmer 1 hour, stirring occasionally.

    Makes 6 servings.
