Ingredients

  • 1 (8 oz.) pkg. pitted dates, chopped
  • 1 c. boiling water
  • 1 c. shortening
  • 1 c. sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 tsp. vanilla
  • 1 3/4 c. flour
  • 1/3 c. cocoa
  • 1/2 tsp. soda
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1/2 to 1 c. broken walnuts
  • 1 (6 oz.) pkg. chocolate chips (mini size)

Directions

    Combine chopped dates and boiling water.

    Cool to room temperature.

    Cream shortening, eggs, sugar and vanilla.

    Add to cooled mixture.

    Sift dry ingredients and add to creamed mixture. Put into jelly roll pan and sprinkle with nuts and mini chips. Bake at 375° for 25 minutes.
