Choco-Nut Caramel Bars

- 1 (11 1/2 oz.) pkg. milk chocolate morsels
- 2 Tbsp. vegetable shortening
- 1 (14 oz.) pkg. caramels
- 5 Tbsp. butter or margarine
- 2 Tbsp. water
- 1 c. coarsely chopped peanuts
Directions

1Melt over hot (not boiling) water milk chocolate morsels and vegetable shortening.

2Stir until morsels melt and mixture is smooth.

3Remove from heat.

4Pour 1/2 of melted chocolate into an 8-inch foil-lined square pan; spread evenly.

5Refrigerate until firm (about 15 minutes).

6Return remaining chocolate mixture to low heat.

7Combine over boiling water the caramels, butter and water.

8Stir until caramels melt and mixture is smooth.

9Stir in nuts until well blended.

10Pour into chocolate-lined pan.

11Spread evenly.

12Refrigerate until tacky, about 15 minutes.
