  • 1 box German chocolate cake mix
  • 3/4 c. butter, melted
  • 1 c. chopped nuts
  • 1/3 c. evaporated milk
  • 1 c. chocolate chips
  • 1/3 c. evaporated milk
  • 1 (14 oz.) pkg. Kraft caramels

Directions

    Melt caramels and 1/3 cup evaporated milk over low heat.

    Set aside.

    Combine cake mix, butter, nuts and 1/3 cup evaporated milk. Press half this mixture into greased and floured 13 x 9-inch pan. Bake at 350° for 6 minutes.

    After removing from oven, sprinkle with chocolate chips.

    Spread caramel mixture over chips.

    Crumble rest of cake mixture on top.

    Return to oven and bake 15 to 18 minutes.

    Cool, then refrigerate 1 hour to set caramel layer.
