- 1 envelope yeast
- 1/4 c. lukewarm water
- 1 Tbsp. sugar
- 4 egg yolks, beaten
- 1/2 c. light brown sugar
- 1/2 c. soft butter
- 1/2 c. cocoa
- few grains salt
- 2 tsp. vanilla
- 1/2 c. warm milk
- 2 c. sifted flour
- 4 egg whites, beaten
- 1/2 c. currants, soaked in 2 Tbsp. rum
Directions

1Dissolve yeast in lukewarm water with 1 tablespoon sugar until frothy.

2Beat egg yolks with brown sugar until thick; then beat butter and add cocoa, salt and vanilla.

3Beat until smooth.

4Add the warm milk and flour.

5Beat 2 minutes.

6Fold in egg whites (beaten until peaked, not dry) and currants.
