  • 1 envelope yeast
  • 1/4 c. lukewarm water
  • 1 Tbsp. sugar
  • 4 egg yolks, beaten
  • 1/2 c. light brown sugar
  • 1/2 c. soft butter
  • 1/2 c. cocoa
  • few grains salt
  • 2 tsp. vanilla
  • 1/2 c. warm milk
  • 2 c. sifted flour
  • 4 egg whites, beaten
  • 1/2 c. currants, soaked in 2 Tbsp. rum

Directions

    Dissolve yeast in lukewarm water with 1 tablespoon sugar until frothy.

    Beat egg yolks with brown sugar until thick; then beat butter and add cocoa, salt and vanilla.

    Beat until smooth.

    Add the warm milk and flour.

    Beat 2 minutes.

    Fold in egg whites (beaten until peaked, not dry) and currants.
