- 2 c. sifted flour
- 2 c. brown sugar
- 1 tsp. baking powder
- 2 eggs
- 1/2 c. butter
- 1 tsp. baking soda
- 1 c. cold water
- 2 sq. baking chocolate
- 1 tsp. vanilla
Directions

1Cream butter and sugar until light.

2Add egg yolks and melted chocolate.

3Add dry ingredients, which have been sifted together three times, alternately with cold water.

4Fold in beaten egg whites.

5Bake in two 9-inch cake pans or a 13 x 9-inch pan at 350° until it springs back when touched with finger, about 35 minutes.
