- 1/4 lb. butter
- 1 c. sugar
- 1 c. brown sugar
- 6 egg yolks
- 3 Tbsp. cold water
- 3 sq. Baker's unsweetened chocolate, melted
- 2 c. sifted cake flour
- 1 tsp. baking soda
- pinch of salt
- 1 tsp. pure vanilla
- 1 c. buttermilk
Directions

1Cream butter and sugar thoroughly.

2Add chocolate.

3Add egg yolks, which have been beaten well with water.

4Sift flour, soda and salt 3 times.

5Add to first mixture alternately with buttermilk until all are used.

6Beat until well mixed.

7Add vanilla.

8Bake in 2 large layer pans (1 1/2 x 9-inch) for about 35 minutes in a 350° oven.

9Use a seven minute frosting between layers and a chocolate frosting on top and sides.
