  • 3 cups flour
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 2 teaspoons baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2/3 cup canola oil
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 2 teaspoons white vinegar
  • 2 cups water
  • 2 cups coarsely chopped pecans

    Preheat the oven to 350F.

    Lightly coat a 9 by 13-inch baking pan with oil or cooking spray.

    Stir together the flour, sugar, cocoa, baking soda, and salt.

    Make a well, or funnel-shaped indentation, in the center of the dry ingredients and add the oil, vanilla, vinegar, and water.

    Stir until smooth.

    Pour the batter into the prepared pan and sprinkle with the pecans.

    Bake for 40 to 45 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
