Chocolate Chip Bars

  • 1 c. butter or regular margarine
  • 1 c. light brown sugar, firmly packed
  • 1 tsp. vanilla
  • 1/8 tsp. salt
  • 2 c. sifted flour
  • 1 (6 oz.) pkg. semi-sweet chocolate pieces
  • 1 c. chopped pecans or walnuts

Directions

    Beat butter with sugar until mixture is light and fluffy. Beat in vanilla.

    Blend salt with flour and stir into beaten mixture, mixing well.

    Fold in chocolate pieces and nuts.

    Press into ungreased 15 1/2 x 10 1/2 x 1-inch jelly roll pan.

    Bake in moderate oven (350°) for 20 minutes.

    While warm, cut in 2 1/2 x 1 1/2-inch bars.

    Cool in pan on rack.

    Makes 3 dozen.
