  • 10 Tbsp (2/3 cup) butter
  • 2 1/3 cups sugar
  • 4 eggs
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 3 cups flour
  • 1 1/2 tsp baking powder
  • 1 1/4 tsp baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1 2/3 cups buttermilk
  • 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1/4 cup water

    Preheat oven to 350°. Grease & flour two 9 inch round cake pans. Cream the butter, then slowly add the 2 cups sugar, beating until thoroughly blended. Add the eggs, beating thoroughly, then mix in the vanilla. Combine the flour, 1 tsp of the baking soda and the salt and mix in a separate small dish. Add to the creamed mixture along with the buttermilk and beat until the batter is smooth.
