  • 1/2 c. shortening
  • 1 c. brown sugar, firmly packed
  • 1 egg
  • 1 3/4 c. flour
  • 1/2 tsp. baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1/2 c. cocoa
  • 1/2 c. milk
  • 1/2 c. walnuts
  • 18 regular marshmallows, cut in halves
  • 1 (6 oz.) pkg. semi-sweet chocolate bits
  • 2 Tbsp. butter
  • 1/2 tsp. cinnamon

    Beat shortening until light.

    Add brown sugar and beat until fluffy.

    Beat in egg to blend.

    Sift together flour, baking soda, salt and cocoa.

    Beat flour mixture alternately with milk into creamed mixture; stir in nuts.

    Drop rounded teaspoonful of dough 2 inches apart onto lightly greased baking sheet.

    Bake in moderate oven (350°) for 12 to 15 minutes.

    Remove from oven and top with marshmallow halves.

    Set pan on rack until cookies are cool enough to handle.

    Melt chocolate chips with butter; stir in cinnamon.

    Holding cookies in hand, use a small spatula and swirl their tops with chocolate mixture to cover marshmallows; cool.
