Chocolate Molasses Cake

- 1 c. sugar
- 1/2 c. solid shortening
- 1/2 c. molasses
- 1 tsp. baking soda
- 1 c. boiling water
- 1 3/4 c. flour
- 3 heaping Tbsp. cocoa
- 1/2 tsp. salt
- 2 eggs
- 1 tsp. vanilla
Directions

1Cream sugar and shortening; add molasses.

2Dissolve soda in boiling water and add to molasses mixture.

3Mix flour with the cocoa and salt.

4The eggs should be beaten and added last with the vanilla.

5The flour-cocoa mixture can be added half at a time to the liquids and beaten in with a mixer, then add eggs.

6It will be very soupy.

7Bake at 350° for 50 to 55 minutes.

8It bakes best in a small tube pan (6 1/2 x 3 1/2-inch), greased and bottom lined with waxed paper.
