- 2/3 c. all-vegetable shortening
- 1 1/2 c. firmly packed light brown sugar
- 1 Tbsp. water
- 1 tsp. vanilla
- 2 eggs
- 1 1/2 c. all-purpose flour
- 1/3 c. unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1/2 tsp. salt
- 1/4 tsp. baking soda
- 1 1/2 c. raisins or combination of raisins and chopped walnuts
Directions

1Heat oven to 375°.

2Combine shortening, brown sugar, water and vanilla in large bowl.

3Beat at medium speed of electric mixer until well blended.

4Beat in eggs.

5Combine flour, cocoa powder, salt and baking soda. Add to creamed mixture at low speed until just blended.

6Stir in raisins.

7Drop by rounded measuring tablespoonfuls 2 inches apart onto ungreased baking sheet.

8Bake one baking sheet at a time at 375° for 7 to 9 minutes, or until cookies are set.

9Do not overbake.

10Cookies should be soft and moist.

11Cool on baking sheet 2 minutes.

12Remove to kitchen counter.
