  • 1/2 c. cocoa
  • 1/2 c. cold water
  • 1 1/2 c. flour
  • 1 tsp. soda
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1 c. brown sugar
  • 1/2 c. shortening
  • 3 eggs
  • 1/2 c. buttermilk or sour milk
  • 1 tsp. vanilla
  • 6 thin milk chocolate bars

Directions

    Mix cocoa with cold water.

    Sift flour with soda and salt. Cream shortening with sugar until fluffy.

    Add eggs, one at a time, and beat thoroughly.

    Add cocoa mixture and half the flour and blend.

    Add milk and blend.

    Add remaining flour and vanilla and blend.
