Ingredients

  • 7 oz dark chocolate, chopped
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 2/3 cup butter, softened
  • 2 cups flour
  • 2 tsp baking powder
  • 3/4 cup hazelnuts, chopped
  • 3 oz chocolate Pocky or other chocolate stick cookies, broken in half
  • 3/4 cup powdered sugar
  • 40 None colored sugar pearls

Directions

    Preheat oven to 350°F. For the cake batter, melt half of the chocolate in a bowl set over a pan of steaming water. In a separate bowl, cream together the sugar, vanilla and butter. Stir in the flour and baking powder then fold in the melted chocolate, remaining chopped chocolate and hazelnuts.

    Spoon 20 dollops of the batter onto a lined baking sheet and poke 8 cookies halves into each for the spider legs. Bake for 15-18 mins and cool on a wire rack.

    To decorate, mix the powdered sugar with 1 tbsp water until smooth and add to a piping bag. Pipe on eyes, using the sugar pearls as pupils, and decorate as desired.
