  • 8 oz. bottle cherries
  • 1/2 lb. prunes
  • 1/2 lb. raisins
  • 1/2 lb. currants
  • 1/4 lb. mixed peel
  • 1/4 tsp. nutmeg
  • 1/4 tsp. cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp. cloves
  • 3/4 lb. slightly salted butter
  • 1 c. brown sugar
  • 2 c. flour
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 8 eggs
  • 2 Tbsp. baking powder
  • 2 Tbsp. vanilla extract
  • 4 Tbsp. molasses (if dark cake is needed)
  • 1 pt. dark rum
  • 1 pt. red wine

    Weeks or days before baking:

    Wash and grind or blend all fruits together in blender.

    Place blended fruits in glass bottle or jar with rum and wine; mix well and let stand, covered tightly. Use only enough liquor to cover fruits.
