- 3 to 4 c. unbleached flour
- 1/4 c. sugar
- 1 tsp. salt
- 1 Tbsp. dry yeast
- 1 c. milk
- 3 Tbsp. butter
- 1/2 tsp. almond extract
- 1 egg
- 1/2 c. slivered almonds
- 1/2 c. mixed candied fruit
- 1/2 c. raisins
- 1/2 tsp. cardamon, nutmeg or mace
Directions

1Mix 1 1/2 cups flour, sugar, salt and yeast.

2Heat milk and butter to very warm (120° to 130°).

3Add warm liquid, almond extract and egg.

4Blend until smooth.

5Stir into mixture remaining ingredients and 2 cups flour to form stiff dough.

6Knead until smooth.

7Let rise until doubled.

8Punch down.

9Roll into 12 x 7-inch oval.

10Fold over long side to 1/2 inch opposite side. Cover; let rise until double.

11Bake at 375° for 30 minutes or until light brown.

12Cool; drizzle with powdered sugar glaze.
