  • 1 cup water
  • 1 cup all purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • olive oil
  • sugar

    In a pot, set the water to boil with the salt.

    Separately, sift the flour and baking powder together. When the water is boiling, add the flour in one large lump. Immediately remove the pot from heat and stir vigorously with a wooden spoon until everything is mixed.

    Once the dough has cooled enough to handle, spoon it into a pastry bag fitted with a serrated tip.

    Pipe out strips of dough onto parchment paper and cut them off with a knife or scissors. Make sure they will fit in the skillet you are using to fry.

    Heat up the olive oil on medium-high heat and once hot, add the churros in batches until golden. You may need to cover the oil while they fry to prevent spitting.

    Remove the churros onto paper towels to drain and sprinkle with granulated sugar before serving.
