- 1/4 c. shortening
- 2 c. self-rising flour
- 1/3 c. finely grated, peeled apple
- 1 tsp. ground cinnamon
- 2 Tbsp. sugar
- 2 Tbsp. ground or grated pecans
- 1/2 to 2/3 c. milk
Directions

1Preheat oven to 475°.

2In a large bowl, using a pastry blender or 2 knives, cut shortening into flour until mixture resembles coarse crumbs.

3Do not overblend, overblending fat produces a mealy, rather than flaky tender biscuits.

4Mix in apple, cinnamon, sugar and pecans.

5Gently push mixture to edges of bowl, making a well in center.

6Using a fork, blend in just enough milk so dough pulls away from sides of bowl.

7Too much milk makes dough hard to handle; too little makes dry biscuits.

8Do not overmix.
