- 10 to 20 whole large Jonathan apples
- 2 lb. sugar
- 1 qt. water
- 1/4 c. vinegar
- 1 1/4 Tbsp. red food coloring
- 1 lb. candy red hots
- 3 oz. stick cinnamon (in cloth bag)
- lettuce leaves
Directions

1Peel and core apples; do not cut in half.

2Combine and heat sugar, water, vinegar, red coloring, red hots and cinnamon until red hots are dissolved.

3Add peeled and cored whole apples to this syrup.

4Cook in pan on top of stove until tender (not mushy). Turn while cooking so red hot candy syrup can soak into all of apples.

5When done, place in large flat pan.

6Pour leftover syrup over cooked apples.

7Chill overnight.
