- 1 (1 lb.) loaf unsliced, firm, white bread, crusts trimmed
- 2 c. milk
- 5 eggs, beaten
- 2 Tbsp. sugar
- 1/2 to 3/4 tsp. cinnamon
- 1/2 tsp. vanilla
- pinch of nutmeg
- oil (for deep frying)
- whipped butter
- maple syrup
Directions

1Cut bread into 4 x 2 x 2-inch rectangular logs.

2Let stand to dry slightly.

3Blend milk, eggs, sugar, cinnamon, vanilla and nutmeg in medium bowl.

4Pour into shallow pan large enough to hold bread in 1 layer.

5Arrange bread in milk mixture, turning to coat all sides.

6Chill until liquid is absorbed, several hours or overnight.
