  • 3/4 c. butter
  • 1 1/2 c. sugar
  • 4 eggs
  • 3 tsp. baking powder
  • 3 c. flour
  • 3/4 c. milk
  • pinch of salt
  • 1 tsp. vanilla
  • 1 tsp. lemon

Directions

    Cream the butter and sugar.

    Add 2 whole eggs.

    Separate the other two and add the yolks.

    Save the 2 whites for the icing. Beat in well. Sift flour, salt and baking powder.

    Add alternately with milk. Beat with electric mixer until smooth. Bake in four 8-inch greased and floured layer pans at 350° for 20 to 30 minutes or until cake springs back when lightly touched with fingers. Frost with icing or may use whipped cream and coconut.
