  • 2 c. sugar
  • 1 c. butter
  • 5 eggs, reserving whites for icing
  • 3 1/2 c. sifted cake flour
  • 2 tsp. baking powder
  • 1 c. milk
  • 2 tsp. vanilla

    Cream butter and sugar.

    Add one egg at a time, beating after each one.

    Add flour, sifted 5 or 6 times with baking powder, alternately with milk.

    Add vanilla.

    Bake in 3 (9-inch) layers at 350° for 25 to 30 minutes.

    Cool and frost.
