- 1 1/2 c. cut dates
- 3/4 c. water
- 1/4 c. sugar
- 1 Tbsp. lemon juice
- 2 c. flour
- 1/2 tsp. salt
- 3/4 c. brown sugar
- 3/4 c. butter
- 1 c. coconut
- 1/2 c. chopped nuts
Directions

1Combine dates, water and sugar in saucepan.

2Bring to boil; simmer, stirring constantly, until thick.

3Remove from heat and stir in lemon juice.

4Sift together flour and salt; stir in brown sugar.

5Cut in butter until mixture resembles coarse crumbs.

6Stir in coconut and nuts.

7Press 1/2 crumb mixture in the bottom of a greased 13 x 9-inch pan.

8Spread with the filling.

9Sprinkle remaining crumb mixture on top and press down lightly.

10Bake at 350° for 30 to 35 minutes.

11Cool; cut into bars.
