  • 1 c. sugar
  • 3/4 c. flour
  • 3 c. milk
  • 5 eggs
  • 1/4 c. oleo
  • 1 tsp. vanilla
  • pinch of salt
  • 1 1/2 c. coconut
  • 1/2 tsp. cream of tartar
  • 5 tsp. water
  • 5 tsp. sugar
  • 1 cooked pie shell

Directions

    Combine sugar and flour; separate eggs.

    Add yolks, oleo and salt, cooking in a double boiler until thick.

    Add vanilla and coconut.

    Pour into pie shell.

    Mix egg whites, cream of tartar and water.

    Beat until whites peak; slowly add sugar.

    Cover filling in shell with the meringue mixture and bake at 300° until lightly browned.
