Ingredients

  • 1-1/4 cups scalded milk
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 1/2 cup shortening
  • 1 cake yeast
  • 2 eggs, lightly beaten
  • 4-1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 Tbsp. cinnamon
  • 1 cup seeded raisins
  • 1 cup chopped nuts

Directions

    Add scalded milk to sugar, salt and shortening.

    Cool to lukewarm, then add cake of yeast.

    Add eggs, flour, cinnamon, raisins and nuts.

    Knead lightly on floured board, place in a greased bowl and let raise double, approx. 2 hrs.

    Punch down and let raise for 1 hour.

    Make dough into 2 braids and let raise double again.

    Bake at 350 degrees for 25 minutes. Spread with blended powdered sugar and brown sugar icing while hot.
