- 1/4 c. vegetable shortening
- 1/2 c. sugar
- 1 egg, beaten
- 1/2 c. skim milk
- 1 1/2 c. flour, sifted
- 2 tsp. baking powder
- 1/2 tsp. salt
- 2 fresh apples, sliced
- 1 tsp. cinnamon
- 1 tsp. sugar substitute
Directions

1Cream shortening and sugar.

2Blend in egg; add milk.

3Sift dry ingredients together and blend into first ingredients.

4Spread batter in greased 9-inch pan.

5Arrange apple slices on top of batter, pressing them slightly into the batter.

6Combine sugar substitute and cinnamon and sprinkle on top.

7Bake at 375° for 25 to 35 minutes.

8Yield: 16 (2 inch) squares.
