Cold Oven Butternut Cake

- 2 sticks butter
- 1/2 c. Crisco
- 3 c. sugar
- 1/4 tsp. salt
- 5 eggs
- 3 c. flour
- 1 c. milk
- 1 c. chopped nuts
- 1 jar maraschino cherries, cut in half and well drained
- 1 Tbsp. plus 1 tsp. vanilla butternut flavoring
Directions

1Cream butter, shortening, sugar and salt.

2Add eggs, one at a time, beating well.

3Add flour and milk alternately, ending with flour.

4Fold in flavoring, cherries and nuts.

5Grease a tube pan (large).

6Start in cold oven and do not open oven door until done. Bake at 325° for 1 hour and 35 minutes.

7Remove from pan soon after taking from oven and cool on wire rack (inverted).
