- 3/4 c. butter
- 2 eggs
- 2 c. unsifted all-purpose flour
- 1 1/4 tsp. baking soda
- 1 1/3 c. water
- 1 3/4 c. sugar
- 1 tsp. vanilla
- 3/4 c. Hershey's cocoa
- 1/2 tsp. salt
Directions

1Cream butter and sugar in large mixer bowl.

2Add eggs and vanilla; beat 1 minute at medium speed.

3Combine flour, cocoa, baking soda and salt; add alternately with water to creamed mixture.

4Pour batter into 2 greased and floured 8-inch or 9-inch layer pans.

5Bake at 350° for 35 to 40 minutes for 8-inch layers; 30 to 35 minutes for 9-inch layers or until cake tester comes out clean.

6Cool 10 minutes; remove from pans.

7Cool completely; frost.
